The departments of Neuroscience of Maastricht University (Netherlands) and Anatomy of the University of Hasselt (Belgium) have a joint PhD position available for the duration of three to four years.

In Neuroscience Laboratory of Physiology Department, Erciyes University Medical Faculty we are studying on the mechanisms of the learning and memory. In order to serve this purpose we apply different behavioral test models and take in vivo electrophysiological recordings from rats.  Also we have the experimental set up to get in vitro long-term potentiation and patch-clamp recordings.

This is a mini-project as part of a larger research project in the laboratory, therefore an exchange period of up to 6 months is expected.

The applicants will be required to use COPASI biochemical simulation software to model the interactions between Elk-1, SRF, Egr-1 and HIF-1 under normoxic and hypoxic conditions in neurons.

This is a mini-project for training purposes only, therefore only a maximum exchange period of 2 months is expected.

The applicants will be required to carry out real-time PCR of various genes in tumor cell lines in our laboratory to determine changes in expression levels.
